At Defiance Rafting, nothing is more awesome than introducing kiddos to the thrill of whitewater rafting. Our Happy Paddler program ensures your little adventurer’s first time on the water is a positive, fun-filled experience.
The Happy Paddler program is available on our Half-Day Colorado rafting trips. All Happy Paddlers receive some sweet post-trip Happy Paddler swag to celebrate their adventure.
Our Best Family-Friendly Rafting Trips:
- Scenic Canyon Half-Day Float – Great for ages 5+
- Roaring Fork Half-Day – Great for ages 5+
- Glenwood Canyon Half-Day – Great for ages 10+
- A paddler must weigh at least 50lbs to raft through the Shoshone rapids. Paddlers over the age of 5 but under 10 will join us at Grizzly Creek, just below the rapids.
- During high water, roughly May 15-June 15, this trip may be modified to avoid Shoshone Rapids or may have older age requirements.
Planning your family rafting trip
When planning your family rafting trip, remember that we prioritize the ability of our youngest participants to understand and follow directions. And have fun! Defiance’s priority is ensuring a kiddo’s introduction to river running is a positive experience that makes them want “more, more!”
Minimum Weight: The smallest life jacket required for commercial trips is sized for kids weighing at least 30 lbs.
Larger Life Jackets: Children weighing 50 lbs or more use larger life jackets suitable for Class III (+) rapids.
Age Restrictions (High Water): During high-water periods (usually early summer), depending on the water level, some trips may have age restrictions.
Trip Options for Families:
Class I/II Rapids: Perfect for families with young kids or those seeking a relaxing river experience. Please take a look at our Scenic Canyon Half-Day Float.
Class II/III Rapids: Offers a great combination of action and relaxation, perfect for families seeking more excitement. Our Glenwood Canyon Half-Day trip meets this criteria.
